Jubilee Nail Art Series #3: Water Marble

Hello all! Can you believe it's the last day of the Jubilee already? I've got something special for my nail art series finale - a water marble! You may remember I've done a couple before, and I'm definitely improving with each one I do. I decided to do it using the colours of the Union Jack, and it so happened that they were all OPI polishes because they seem to work really well for water marbling. The white is Alpine Snow, the red is Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It, and the blue is Dating a Royal (also used in yesterday's post).

You can find my previous water marbles here and here.

Models Own Water Marble

Last month I tried my hand at a water marble for the first time, and while it kind of worked I wasn't 100% happy with it. I decided to try again and I'm pleased to report my second go was somewhat more successful. Take a look:

Products:
Models Own Pastel Pink
Models Own Sophie's Pink
Models Own Golden Peach

That faint gold shimmer you see is Golden Peach, which turned out to be a lot sheerer than I expected! Oh well, at least I know for future reference. I'm actually pretty chuffed with how this turned out, although I think I need to work on my patterns - I was aiming for a chevron design! XD

My First Water Marble

Yup, you read that right... I decided to try my hand at water marbling the other day. I wouldn't call it an unqualified success, but at least it actually worked (which is more than I was expecting)!

Products:
Blue - Rimmel London Aqua Cool
Lilac - OPI Done Out in Deco
White - OPI Alpine Snow

The pattern isn't very exciting and it bubbled a little, but oh well. Hopefully once I've done it a few more times I'll be able to iron out any kinks. I only did it as an accent on my thumb and ring finger because it was quicker/easier. I used a cutepolish tutorial on YouTube, which I found very helpful.

The water marble actually worked best on the thumb of my right hand:

Now that I've lost my water marbling virginity and it wasn't as much of a faff as I expected, I'm keen to try other patterns/colours. So watch this space...
